As I said in my last blog, our Art League here on Marco Island, FL was having a reception in the evening of Oct. 5th to recognize Breast Cancer Month with artwork celebrating the female form(Form de Femme). Twenty-four artists made art with bras called Bras For Life which were auctioned off by Dave Rice, a former football player with the New York Titans who has helped our art league overcome a large financial challenge. The bras were so creative and most were very attractive.
Some of the bras were decorated with beautiful shells, artificial flowers or painted. It was fun looking at the different bras and marveling at the artists’ creativity.
We had a turnout of about 100+ people for this event which is was about a 50% increase from the size of most of such receptions. The bidding on the Bras For Life started very slowly, but did gain momentum. Bras went from $35 to $200. A signed bra donated by Annette Benning was sold for $160. A portion of all sales went to the Susan G. Koening Association for increasing awareness of this disease which effects one out of 8 women. It was a great evening for attendees, one that few will forget!
